    Hi Ruth,
Have a look at the VICNISS website, I believe SAB data is collected nationally therefore national definitions.

    Hi there,
Please can someone tell me if there are any Australian national infection prevention and control surveillance definitions for healthcare associated blood stream infections? I am aware of the ACSQHC CLABSI and SAB surveillance guides but I was wondering if there are any national ones for all HABSI used in Australia. The only ones I can find are the AICA ones from a number of years ago.

I am interested in this because in our New Zealand facility we previously used these AICA definitions in the past and need to update now.

    Cheers

    Ruth

Does any other facility have a written protocol for use of waterless scrub agents for pre-operative hand disinfection of procedural staff? We do have a protocol from the supplier of the waterless scrub, but would like see what other facilities have developed.

Also, does anyone known the status of the College of Operating Room Nurses development of a policy on waterless scrubbing? Has the College of Surgeons developed anything yet?

Thanks for all assistance. If you wish to send me a protocol, please be aware the list does not support attachments, so send it directly to my email below rather than replying to the list.

    Cheers

    Hi All,
If you check out the latest edition of Healthcare Infections you will find an article about a study I did prior to TGA approval of a surgical hand rub (SHR) looking at HCW current scrub practices and their knowledge and attitudes about SHR. You might find the reference list helpful.

    Hi Jane,

The CDC have got a good article on this. It’s their MMWR and in October 2002, Vol 51, page 17 it discusses exactly this. I’m sure there’s a more up to date report somewhere. You could also try Skinman Soft, made by Orion.

    Cheers,
    Helen.

    Hi
Weve got some staff who can only use the PCMX scrub product as they are sensitive to both chlorhex and betadine but BD have advised that they are withdrawing this product. Can I ask what other centres are doing for staff with allergies would plain soap and water washed followed by plain alcohol (without antiseptic additive) be sufficient for surgical procedures? Thoughts/ideas welcome.

Subject: Gloves use during Immunisation clinics

    Hi all
I have a question about the wearing of gloves and the use of hand hygiene during vaccination clinics, in particular in schools or community based clinics. The Immunisation guidelines state that gloves are not routinely recommended for immunisation service providers and that standard precautions should be used.
Would be interested to know what others are doing.

    1. Do the immunisation staff wear gloves or not?

    2. If wearing gloves do they change them and perform hand hygiene between each client/ individual?

    3. If not wearing gloves do they perform hand hygiene between each client?
    Thanks
