    Hi Yana

A great example of a good PIVC documentation tool can be found on AVATARs website.

I-DECIDED assessment and decision tool (avatargroup.org.au)

We were part of the original trial of this tool (soon to be published study results), and while it is more paperwork for staff to complete, the results in improvement in outcomes for patients is well worth it.

    Cheers
    Michael

    Good Morning All

I am interested in examples of forms in use at other sites to document PIVC care. I am looking for ways to improve compliance with recording of daily device assessment and insertion and removal details. Currently this is recorded on the back of the observation chart however there are some barriers to compliance with this.

    Happy to be contacted directly.

    Cheers

    Afternoon everyone,

I need to design an exemption form (that can be uploaded digitally) for the Covid 19 vaccination.

I was wondering if anyone has one that they could share so I get some ideas.

    Greatly appreciated,

Hello not routinely, but we do when we are faced with difficult verifications!
Its easier using Medicare #s, being a unique identifier as you know, there are many ways people
have their names registered in there.

We have also used AIR privileges to upload recognised overseas COVID-19 vaccines.

Additionally, as we run a PHU Vaccine Hub onsite, we use AIR to check clients 1st doses given elsewhere
    if required.

    Hello Cate,
Last year (2020 COVID-19 year!) this was discussed at higher organisational level in our workplace.
It was deemed an OH&S portfolio, in terms of WorkSafe requirements and compliance.

In fact , fit-testing are performed by the likes of occupational hygienist with specialist training on this
discipline. Its a comprehensive OH&S scope, which comes under the Respiratory Protection Program
(i.e. sourcing of PAPRs) particularly in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Fit-testing is actually done in other industries, including construction.

Do you also apply this regime to patients with MRSA history or does it differ?

    Hi Liz,

We only undertake perioperative antiseptic body wash the day before and the day of surgery.
Skin prep is undertaken in theatre with 2% chlorhexidine and 70% alcohol at the time of surgery.

    Hello Everyone

Can those who undertake orthopaedic surgery tell me whether you currently undertake Orthopaedic pre-op skin prep on wards pre theatre. Apparently our sterile drape supplies are restricted.
I was under the impression that this an older discarded practice other than pre-op shower and that skin prep is only conducted immediately pre-op.
    Would appreciate your input

    Hi All,

What is the evidence for car AC on fresh air or recycled?

None that I have seen in terms of COVID-19 transmission but happy to be corrected.

    Hi Cate,

If they drive with ac on fresh air, have their surgical mask on and just roll the window down for the test and back up when finished and go.
I know we have told patients to sit in the back of the car, surgical mask on with the window open, driver side window open and the AC on fresh air (which works okay on normal days, chilly for winter and not tolerable on a hot day). Allows for airflow through the car when driving.
Its more important that the staff are wearing the correct PPE and distance when undertaking the testing. Plus their exposure time is significantly short.

Nurses and midwives: clean care is in your hands

    HI everyone
Could you let me know what advice you give to members of the public waiting in their car for a COVID-19 test? Do you advise them to have windows up with A/C on fresh air or recycled air? The temp has been in the 40s here so A/C is essential.
There seems to be 2 differing opinions. Our policy when transporting patients with active TB apart from PPE is to drive with windows down if possible and A/C on fresh air. I support windows up with COVID-19 but am confused about the A/C on recycled.
Any thoughts on his big pressing issue- ha ha

    Hi Annette,

When we terminally cleaned our cohort COVID ward last month, we did 10 random surface
swabs as a quality activity. It also reassured many staff that we can beat the virus with
diligent environmental cleaning, amongst other things!

Our in-house pathology (Aust. Clinical Lab.) assisted this with us. Of course, we discussed this
first with their Area Manager so that she can proactively follow-through with the specimen
as they arrived in their laboratory.

    Hi everyone.

We’re looking for labs that will analyse environmental swabs for the presence (and ideally numbers) of any pathogens on surfaces.
We’d like to implement this as part of our infection control auditing.
Does anyone know of any labs that will do this for private clinics?
I’ve searched the internet and spoken to some other healthcare providers, but have not had much luck so far.
    Thanks!
