Dear All,
We would like to know, if isolation rooms are equipped with pressure stabilizer i.e. the louvers, whether the smoke test is necessary? Video clip for the louver (installed outside of isolation room) is taken when HVAC is activated http://www.youtube.com/watch?vY46Ye9uUad8

Please consider the environment before printing this e-mailHi Samantha.
We are about to recommence smoke testing of these rooms again, I think it just fell off the radar for a while.
The engineering folks are responsible for this, they just generate a work order which flags every month.
There is also a dial outside the room, when we have someone in there for airborne precautions, we make sure it is in good working order. Most of the time, these rooms are used for non airborne precautions.
We also randomly audit these rooms when we are doing area audits.Sandi Millington.

________________________________We are currently reviewing our Negative ventilation room policy.
According to the Victorian Department of Health Guidelines for the classification and design of isolation rooms in health care facilities 2007, section 5.8 states:
“When a room is occupied, smoke tests should be carried out monthly in addition to continuous electronic monitoring of room pressure, and daily monitoring and documentation of room and anteroom pressures by nursing staff. When a room is not occupied, room pressure should be checked monthly.”
At St Vincent’s we do not currently perform monthly smoke testing, and are wondering if anyone routinely performs this.
Thanks,

14/05/2012 at 12:36 pm in reply to: temperature for laundry – drying process for different fabric #68987Dear Fiona.
Thank for your sharing.
Australian / New Zealand Standards for Laundry Practice AS/NZS 4146:2000, Section 3.5.2, which states:
“The minimum time/temperature combinations are therefore-
(a) 65C maintained for not less than 10 minutes; minimum cycle time 14 minutes for low loading or 18 minutes for high loading; or
(b) 71C maintained for not less than 3 minutes; minimum cycle time 7 minutes for low loading or 11 minutes for high loading.”My raised question is for the heat liable fabric and it is contaminated with scabies. Because the concerned fabric’s laundry label states the fabric is not suitable for temperature which is greater than 65C.
So, we would like to know the temperature requirements for washing and ironing process of this heat labile fabric.

________________________________HI All,
I am reviewing our hospital’s laundry practices, and I would like to know the temperature for laundry – drying process for different fabric.
(1) for heat liable fabric that is treated by low temperature.
(2) for general fabric that would stand for higher temperature.
Yours sincerely,

Dear Sir/Madam,
I note the issue regular disposal of sued disinfectants is addressed in the Queensland Health, 2011, Surgical Skin Antisepsis in Operating Theatres. http://www.health.qld.gov.au/chrisp/resources/rec_prac_skinprep.pdf, section 7, point Expiry dates, page 5, which states:
o aqueous povidone-iodine expires one month after opening;
o alcoholic solutions must be discarded six (6) months after opening.
I would like to know whether the above mentioned recommendations are common infection control practices in Australia, and additional references to support this practice.
Yours sincerely,

Hi jacky,
Local technician recommends us using 121OC for the cleaned bottles & pacifiers. After the bottles are filled with reconstituted milk, the sterilizer’s parameters are set to 105 OC for 18-20 mins., sterilize time maintain at 105 OC for 2 min.

Dear All,My hospital is mainly using the commercially sterile ready-to-feed liquid infant formula, however we still need to reconstitute powdered infant formula (PIF), and we use steam sterilizer to sterilize the PIF.
We would like to know the recommended sterilization parameters such as temperature and the duration for this process.
