    Hi Emily,

Yes, the Medicare does have exemption form that a Dr submits to Medicare.
I just need one for our records.
I have made one waiting for it to be approved by HR.
    Kind regards
    Helen

    Hi Helen,

I thought that medical exemption forms from COVID-19 vaccination had to be uploaded onto the Medicare website.
This might be an option for Staff to print out t or email their Medicare certificates.
    Just a thought
    Kind Regards,

    Afternoon everyone,

I need to design an exemption form (that can be uploaded digitally) for the Covid 19 vaccination.

    My advice every 2-3 days.

Even if the linen does not look dirty the person will still be shedding skin cells and some will be colonised with potential pathogens such as Staphylococcus aureus including methicillin resistant S. aureus, MRSA.

The average adult human loses up to 500 million skin cells per day.

    Hi all,

Ive had the following question from a colleague:

How often does bed linen need to be changed if not soiled?
I have checked the linen protocol and Australian IPC guideline 3.1.8 but cant find anything?
Are there any best practice guidelines or anything?

    Hi everyone,
Thank you all for your replies, I have answered some emails privately.

That is the same reason I started doing them, watches artificial nails, engagement rings, etc.
I started 12 months ago with monthly audits with very poor results.
I am happy to report that are compliance rate is over 90% most months now.
    Would love to hit 100%.

I will probably taper of audits as well now.

Thank you again for all your replies.

    Hi
I commenced Bare Below Elbows audits in our hospital around 2 years ago.
Initially it was very hard to get staff to appreciate or understand the importance of it.
The biggest challenge is the idea that we all need our smart watches ( how did we ever survive before).
I did monthly audits for at least six months and now have been able to taper off.
It has been continual messaging and can now say that we have a continual compliance rate in the 90s.
This is driven by staff on the wards, who call each other out on practices that we no longer accept.
It was difficult to start but I am very proud of what we now achieve.
All I have to do now is to get the VMOs to join the party

    Hi Helen,

I would be very interest in taking part in audits of Bare Below the Elbows within our hospital.
This audit has not been conducted within the facility that I work at. I continuously see Nursing staff wear smart watches, rings and bangles. This would be great exercise for us.
I work in a regional hospital with 142 beds.

Please contact me if you think our hospital would be appropriate.

    Morning everyone,

I have been asked to benchmark against other hospitals in regards to Bare Below the Elbows audits.

I am looking for 3 to 4 hospital that is close to the same size as us 155 beds.
Currently, I audit 10 staff a month in each area.
Hospital wide that is 90 nursing staff.

If anyone can help please let me know.
    Have a great day

    Hi Emily,
We have the QR scanning system in our small hospital.
We find that some of our clientele don’t have mobile phone or have data access and unable to use it and would prefer to write their name on paper.
Staff on the door do try and educate them on how to complete the QR scan, some still refuse.

I would say only a quarter of the visitors to hospital use it.

    Regards
    Helen

    Hi

I would like to ask a question on the ACIPC_Infexion_Connexion please 🙂

My facility where I work is a regional private hospital in Queensland with 150 beds and other allied outpatient health services.
We have discussed the use of QR scanning system for all Hospital Visitors to assist contact tracing during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Are there any health care facilities that have implemented this system? If so how well does this work?

    Thank you
    Kind Regards,
Emily Stewart – Infection Control Coordinator RN

    Hi Group,
    A question for the group
What are you using to clean keyboards, phones etc at Nurses desks.
My workplace have supplied diluted bleach in spray bottles.
This is an OH&S issue due to the aerosol effect of inhaled bleach. Would be grateful to know what you are using.

We have dedicated a specific theatre for COVID-19 cases. There are gumboots for staff to wear as part of the PPE for this theatre, and they put the gum boots on as part of the PPE and remove them as part of removal of PPE.

We thought about overshoes for all, but were concerned about staff forgetting they had them on and not removing/changing them. Gumboots are pretty obvious!

    Cheers

    Hi All,

We are a facility that still uses paper based medical records our concern is that these may become widely contaminated and pose a risk to the medical records staff when they are reviewed / coded.

Whilst we only have minimal patient numbers we are able to manage the records outside the patient room, however in the event of a full ward of patients we are concerned contamination is likely to occur.

Are you able to share with me how your facility is managing paper records from COVID positive wards?

    Hello all,

I am having a hard time to get some nurses to adhere to below the elbows in regards to Nail Polish, Enhancements, SNS, Shellac etc.

Most of the staff say that because its Shellac or SNS, it doesnt chip and become a hazard.

I have given them our policies to support this fact of removal all nail enhancements.

Does anyone know of any recent studies on this topic that I read to get more information to supply to my staff?

    Thanks,

    Hello Everyone.

On the back of John Ferguson’s comment. How does one go about implementing fit test training that is, is there an accredited course or Trainer one can co-opt to educate staff? Do any of the mask companies provide this training. Would be interested in how other sites meet this compliance requirement as we are as small private hospital licensed 78 beds.

    With Thanks

    Hi all,

Is anyone concerned that this (and other statements) ignores the requirement for fit testing of staff who are going to rely on airborne mask protection?

Btw, CEC NSW have developed nice combined Contact/Droplet signage for those with geographical signage space deficiency (GSSD). Kathy D am sure will share it.

    Hi all,

Human tissue (including placentas and pathology specimens) is considered anatomical waste and needs to be disposed of as that. Some areas dont incinerate their clinical waste, therefore anatomical waste shouldnt be put in there. You should be able to find the details in each states Waste Mx policy.

    Cheers,

    Afternoon everyone,

My CSSD staff have come to me with some concerns in regards to disposing of human tissues.

Can anyone tell me what standards there are around the disposal of human tissue in theatre or CSSD.
    Liquid form or solid form.

Should it be disposed of in theatre prior to the equipment being sent to CSSD?
