Thank you for this update version of the ASUM guidelines Michael. I
note with interest that a number of items remain out of date in relation
to terminology and recommendations pertaining to Infection Prevention &
Control. I note in particular the use of the term “Universal
Precautions” (followed swiftly by the term standard precautions). Also
the direction as to when hands should be “washed” (namely before and
after direct patient contact), strike me as somewhat outdated. Not sure
if there was any IC community engagement review on this document but I
    fear not.

ASUM (Australasian Society for Ultrasound in Medicine) have updated
their Statement on Disinfection of Transducers.

    http://www.asum.com.au/site/files/P&S/B2_policy.pdf

The main change from an infection control perspective that I would note
is: “NB: It must be noted that sodium hypochlorite (e.g. Milton) is not
TGA approved for high level disinfection of medical equipment and is not
suitable for use in disinfecting Transducers”.

Finally this guideline comes into line with other disinfection
    guidelines for intracavity transducers.

    Cheers
    Michael

    Hi Margaret,

We have used these wipes in our hospital recently for environmental
disinfection following cleaning when we had a patient with C. difficile
infection who reported an allergy to bleach based products. Our
cleaning staff found the wipes quite wet and easy to use in that
respect, the odour from them however was quite acidic (like uncontained
vinegar). They reported a preference to return to the normal bleach
based cleaning agent when possible. We didn’t do anything to assess the
    efficacy as such.

Happy to discuss off-line if you wanted to contact our unit next year.

    Merry Christmas

    Kind regards

    Hi Wendy,

Our CSD Manager has indicated that this issue has not been seen at the
    RHH. Please see an extract of her email below;

We have not experienced this but I have no information of what type of
wrap they use. Also we use plastic trays to transport wrapped items to
prevent such things as rips and holes, especially heavier trays.

Currently at the Canberra Hospital we are experiencing problems related
to the surgical wrap developing small holes and splits.

I am wondering has anyone else had issues around this in their CSD or
Operating Rooms. If any one has had this issue I am wondering f you
would share your solution to resolve this.

Would love to hear from you on this matter
