    Hi Pam

Just to clarify… are you looking for a patient HAI surveillance system, or a staff exposure surveillance system, or both?

    Cheers

Wouldnt meal trays/water jugs would be managed as per your usual transmission based precautions procedures? If there is an issue with SARS-CoV-2 wouldnt you have an issue with other microorganisms that are spread on fomites? Have I missed something in your question?

    Good morning,

I would appreciate any feedback on how meal trays/water jugs etc are being managed for coronavirus patients.
Are any additional precautions being put in place during transportation of contaminated trays from the room to the industrial dishwasher?
Are facilities using disposable plates/cutlery etc.

    Thank you in advance.

Does anyone have any opinion on the necessity of disinfecting washing machine internal components?

I have been advised to run a wash cycle containing disinfectant every week in order for the internal bowl and piping to be decontaminated.

The Codes of Practice for Public Healthcare Operated Laundries and Linen Services have been quoted as suggesting this however I cannot find this recommendation within them.

    Any advice is appreciated.

    Hi Pam,

Generally in Australia 1000ppm Sodium Hypochlorite is recommended and used however you will find in the USA Sodium Hypochlorite 5000ppm is general what is used.

In outbreak control reports (i.e. multiple strategies) you will find both concentrations of Sodium Hypochlorite noted.

If your including spores in your query find below an extract from the recent “ASID/ACIPC position statement – Infection control for patients with Clostridium difficile infection in healthcare facilities” which explains further the use of chlorine based agent.

    * “If using a chlorine based agent (i.e. household bleach) high levels of chlorine (5000 mg/L free chlorine) have been shown to have consistent efficacy against C difficile spores however lower dilutions of chlorine (1000 and 3000 mg/L free chlorine) show varying capacity to eradicate spores. Sporicidal agent contact times recommended by the manufacturer/supplier need to be practical for healthcare n settings. Long contact times (the time the surface needs to remain wet) of 10-30 min may be an occupational health and safety hazard and are not practical for a healthcare setting”.

    Good morning everyone,

I am comparing two Sodium Hypochlorite products for hard surface cleaning/disinfection (floors etc).
They have widely different recommended ppm dilutions for reconstitution as hospital grade disinfection (one is 1000ppm, the other is 5000ppm).

Does anyone have any suggestions where I can locate advice on approximate ppm Sodium Hypochlorite dilution for microbial kill?

    Thanks so much,

    Hi Pam

Have you approached your HR department? Some of the HR platforms have a staff health region within their program, and in some cases fields to store vaccination data.

However, there has been some interest generated recently in the options now available with the now ‘all of life’ Australian Immunisation Register, which may effectively allow all networks access.

We utilise an excel spreadsheet as well and find it clunky and not user friendly.
Would love access to a database that we can introduce across our network.
    Cheers

    Hi Catherine,
I was looking for a generic infection control presentation for nurses and nursing aids that has been developed according to current guidelines and best practice to replace the old one here that was developed in house.
    Thanks so much

    Hi Pamela

What topics are you looking for? Do they need to be specific for NT govt policy, national or generic?

I have many that I may be able to share with you and you could adapt them for local use.
