    HI Phillipa,
In 2012 I made up my own Blood Culture kits and these were rolled out to all adult wards (Paediatric had different requirements) in the hospital. The aim was to reduce contamination which has been achieved and the results of the study were presented at the AICA conference in Adelaide.
The kits include a 3 pack of alcohol/chlorhexidine swabsticks plus the bottles. I would be happy to discuss offline.

    Kind regards

    Dear colleagues

Does anyone use a small blood culture kits or small packs with chlohexidine and alcohol swabsticks. All our bottles are provided separately. Have seen plenty with bottles.
    I would appreciate any leads.
    Thanks.

    Kind regards

In the last few days we have undergone a periodic review including Standard 3. 3.10 centres on the clinical workforce training in aseptic technique and most likely a Not Met result will be given.
Unlike nurses, for which there were competencies and assessments completed, for most procedures doctors do not have competency based training and assessments built in to their program.
As nurses it can be problematic to direct medical staff to change practice and comply with the requirements for competency based training and assessment.

I think this may be a universal problem and not limited to hospital size and I also would welcome any thoughts/ solutions as how you may have introduced such a system to your medical fraternity.

I was wondering what other hospitals, particularly small hospitals under 50 beds are doing to implement 3.10.1 ANTT Clinical workforce is trained in aseptic technique, medical staff training ?
