    Hi Linda,

Decorations assist in boosting staff and patient morale, especially for those in hospital during Christmas, so it is hard to ban them.

You need to ensure that any decorations are not going to clutter up the environment, hinder cleaning or pose an infection risk.

    In clinical areas

    * Aim for decorations that are easily cleaned (laminated posters, photos etc)
    * Place decorations where they are out of reach and can’t be touched by multiple hands
    * Tinsel and glitter should NOT be in a clinical area
    * Replace decorations each year – do not store them in a box in the store room.
    * Be careful about using balloons as they can contain latex

Other ways of celebrating include the use of festive scrub tops for staff, or a hat for Melbourne cup day.

    Kind regards,

    Dear all

Having many discussions in regards to decorations not only for Christmas, but also any celebration. Would appreciate any information, article, policy or guideline on this matter from those that know much more than I.

    Kind Regards Linda

    Dear colleagues,

We are looking at installing shampoo/body wash soap product in our patient showers, which we hope will be safer and more cost effective than providing individual bottles and bars of soap to patients who do not have their own toiletries. The idea is to have a standardised pump dispenser (similar in design to clinical handwashing product) containing an all-in-one product.

I am interested to know if other facilities have installed these types of pumps in their patient showers, and your experience/advice – in particular if there are any issues with the style of pump or bracket used given they are frequently exposed to heat and moisture.

If there are specific products or brands you wish to name, please contact me directly at D.Karanfilovska@alfred.org.au as not to breach the conditions of membership to this forum.

    Many thanks,

    Dear Brains trust,

I am seeking your collective opinion about pan and bowl washer/disinfectors. I have always preferred separate units, based on my experience of visual soiling on bed pans that have completed a cycle. However I am now being asked to consider a combined unit.

What is your preference and why?
