    Good morning

I would be interested in other people’s thoughts or if there is any policy concerning the use of shower curtains in health care facilities.

Also what cleaning and replacement currently occurs in health care facilities for shower curtains?

    Hi Christine

    The Australian Immunisation Handbook states:

    2.2.4 Preparation for vaccine administration
    Skin cleaning
Provided the skin is visibly clean, there is no need to wipe it with an antiseptic (e.g. alcohol wipe).3,8 If the immunisation service provider decides to clean the skin, or if the skin is visibly not clean, alcohol and other disinfecting agents must be allowed to dry before vaccine injection (to prevent inactivation of live vaccines and to reduce the likelihood of irritation at the injection site).9

    Hi Christine

We treat all MRSA’s the same, regardless of antibiogram / labels. If it is Staph aureus that is resistant to di(flu)cloxacillin, it’s deemed an MRSA and managed exactly the same way here. We do report them to our Committee as multi or non-multi, as there are definitely different patterns of infectivity and different treatment options, but we consider all of them transmissible within the healthcare environment and thus managed accordingly.

    Cheers
    Michael

Lots of variables really. If they need to go through any other sterile area then yes they would and if there is sterile stock in the immediate vicinity then yes they should.
The geography of the lay out would be a deciding factor.
Basically, if there is a risk of any breach they should change.

What to wear when entering the SSD Department, is being hotly debated in our area.

The question is – Do maintenance staff have to put on theatre scrubs when entering the SSD dept to perform routine work on the sterilisers?

I would like to know what other facilities do.

    Thanks

We are currently undertaking redevelopment activities on our main campus and an issue of where to house the specimen refrigerator has arisen. We do not have an onsite pathology service and rely on courier service to collect specimens for testing. The project officers would like the specimen refrigerators to be housed in the utility/ dirty room and the other option is for them to go into the treatment room. I’m wondering if other ICPs with similar dilemma (utilise specimen refrigerators) can provide comments around where they should be located. Unfortunately I can’t seem to find any evidence of where specimen refrigerators should be located, although treatment rooms would be preferred – from aspect of not wanting couriers/ staff to enter dirty zones to access specimens. Many thanks. Jen

    Hi Terri,

All our slide sheets are sent to the external laundry for washing. We do not reprocess them on site at all.
They are used for single patients only and when soiled or the patient is discharged they go out in the dirty linen.

    Hi all,

Just wondering how some of you clean the nylon slide sheets used with pat slides? At present in the hospital there are several different ways to do it and we would like to standardise this process using best practice.
