    Hi Emily,

DDHHS have implemented this system, predominately in our rural and aged care facilities.

I think it works quite well – of course you will always have people who struggle with technology but the reports that we get are quite interesting.

    Hi

I would like to ask a question on the ACIPC_Infexion_Connexion please 🙂

My facility where I work is a regional private hospital in Queensland with 150 beds and other allied outpatient health services.
We have discussed the use of QR scanning system for all Hospital Visitors to assist contact tracing during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Are there any health care facilities that have implemented this system? If so how well does this work?

    Thank you
    Kind Regards,
Emily Stewart – Infection Control Coordinator RN

    Hi Cate,
Darling Downs Health has recently brought some of the PPE stands for different areas.
As far as I’m aware, they work quite well, especially in areas that don’t have a lot of single rooms etc

Our hospital has recently been looking into the way our toilets are cleaned throughout our hospital.

Do any of you use disposable toilet bowl brushes? If not, what cleaning process do you have for the brushes from room to room?

    Hi Jenny,

We don’t have a particular procedure – however as stated in the NHMRC Australian Guidelines for the Prevention and Control of Infection in HealthCare:

    * Domestic-type washing machines must only be used for a patient’s personal items (not other linen). Washing must involve the use of an appropriate detergent and hot water. If hot water is not available, only individual patient loads can be washed at one time. Clothes dryers should be used for drying.
    * Used linen must not be rinsed or sorted in patient-care areas or washed in domestic washing machines

I’m sure you have already seen this but just in case!

    Hi

I am looking for information form an infection control point of view for domestic washing/dryer machine being installed on an acute medical ward
This is for patients own use for personal clothing as our laundry is now being sourced from outside and personal clothing will no longer be washed on site
I am looking for any information that will help with the smooth running of this potential implementation of washer /dryer on the ward
I was wondering if anyone had any protocols or policy they are willing to share
    Thank you

    Hi all,
With the introduction of disposable cloths and microfibre, are facilities still sticking to the colour coding of equipment for environmental cleaning?
    For example:
    Infectious/Isolation areas – Yellow
    Toilets/Bathrooms/Dirty Utility rooms – Red
Food Service and food preparation areas – green
    General cleaning – Blue
    Operating theatres – white

Is it still essential when equipment is changed or discarded between zones as per CEC Environmental Cleaning Standard Operating Procedure?

    Hi Glenys,

The webinars are free to access for 24 hours for non-members from the time of the presentation as long as you register in advance. Just click on the link, then the booking information tab, and then on the blue text at the top that says register your free place here ignore the members bit further down the page. Its just a bit odd how theyve laid out the page where you register.

Just to reiterate what John said, Susanne is an excellent speaker and well worth listening to.

Speaker: Dr Susanne Lee, Leegionella Ltd

Chair: Dr Claressa Lucas, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

It is now 40 years since the organism which caused the first recognised outbreak of Legionnaires disease was discovered by CDC and since then legislation and guidelines have been developed in most of the world to minimise the risks public buildings. Despite all the research that has occurred within the last 40 years across the world cases of Legionnaires disease are rising. Public building architects and building design engineers do not generally design out the potential for Legionella and other waterborne pathogens to colonise and grow within water systems.

Within complex buildings such as hospitals and hotels etc. where water is used for purposes other than for the drinking, cooking personal hygiene etc. there are additional risks from water borne infection from water used in treatment, diagnosis or recreational purposes where opportunistic pathogens, in addition to legionellae such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa are of concern. This webinar will look at how risks from water borne pathogens can be minimised by ensuring good quality point of entry water quality; good system design; installation practices; commissioning and management.

This webinar is available for viewing for 24 hours after the live broadcast.
