    HI Mary
I would suggest checking the possibly different air flow strategy
required for a negative pressure room vs chemical containment. But it
could be possible from what I understand. Please also see forward here
from our Building manager about breach alerts and risk of contamination
related to filter changes. I would suggest you will need advice from air
    conditioning expert or engineer.
    regards

    Hi Jane,
My concerns would be with BMS alarms (Wording) reconfiguring on
contacts re breaches, Dect phone etc at each change of room, that might
confuse staff of the use in these rooms. Negative pressure rooms have
separate systems but normally Alarms have to be reset manually as
    Australian Standards requirement.
Also any cross contamination between filter changes could be an issue.
I havent seen a Standard which reflects multiple use of these rooms,
which doesnt say they have not approved latterly. WA does have some
different Standards. Hope this is of some help.

    Dear All,
I am interested in evidence or experiences related to a type 5 negative
pressure room in an Emergency Dept also being used as the chemical
isolation room. The chemical isolation room requires charcoal filters to
be used. I’m not sure how this may affect either or both systems.

    Hi Wendy
    Advice from our CSSD NUM>
Could be due to a number a reasons. Starting point could be how heavy are the items that are being wrapped – may need to split big trays to reduce weight, how items are handled and stored, multiple handling or dragging across wire rack shelving ( can obtain transport trays for heavy items), most wraps come in a variety of weights (thickness) – maybe heavier weight wrap is required for some heavy trays, use of tray liners can help, loan set containers are always an issue as many of them have sharp legs protruding or are damaged with sharp pieces.
Sometimes an extended drying cycle on a steam sterilizer (would have to be over 30mins) can cause wrap to be brittle.
In my experience it is usually due to the excess handling of sterile stock and/or storage situations. Staff at times have no option but to drag heavy trays or trays that are stored to high. The transport trays are recommended here. For the loan sets – if you are not happy with the tray containers that are sent from the company decant to own baskets.
Best idea is to utilize the company that supplies the wrap to check batch loads of wrap and help source the problem.
Changing wrap is a pain as you would have to validate sterilizers again for the new wrap.
    Hope this may help

Currently at the Canberra Hospital we are experiencing problems related to the surgical wrap developing small holes and splits.

I am wondering has anyone else had issues around this in their CSD or Operating Rooms. If any one has had this issue I am wondering f you would share your solution to resolve this.

Would love to hear from you on this matter
