________________________________Good morning,
I am presenting an IPC lecture and 2 hour tutorial for post-graduate public health students. Students range from healthcare and non-healthcare backgrounds and work from hospitals to office blocks. I will do a hand hygiene activity which works well for face-to-face and online students. Has anyone conducted any activities which have been well received by individuals?Angela Willemsen

Dear All,
I too am interested in the surveillance case definitions for these conditions and would also like to know if anyone is undertaking hospital-based RSV surveillance?
If so, what definitions do you use for community and hospital acquired infection?
Many Thanks,

Good Afternoon Jacky and all
I highly recommend the following for a vein assessment tool:
Hallam, C., Weston, V., Denton, A., Hill, S., Bodenham, A., Dunn, H., & Jackson, T. (2016). Development of the UK Vessel Health and Preservation (VHP) framework: a multi-organisational collaborative. Journal of Infection Prevention, 17(2), 65-72.
And Chopra for device selection:
Chopra, V., Flanders, S. A., Saint, S., Woller, S. C., O’Grady, N. P., Safdar, N., … & Bernstein, S. J. (2015). The Michigan Appropriateness Guide for Intravenous Catheters (MAGIC): results from a multispecialty panel using the RAND/UCLA appropriateness method. Annals of internal medicine, 163(6_Supplement), S1-S40.
They have also completed this work for paeds if youre in that setting lead for that was Prof Amanda Ullman.
As previously said, INS, and ACSQHC resources are also great (and both fairly recent which is nice) NB not all institutes have access to INS (pay-membership unfortunately).
If you have any specific queries through please email me anytime (AVATAR Clinical Trials Liaison / Research Fellow, Vascular Access)

I acknowledge and pay my respects to the traditional owners and custodians of the land in which I work, walk and live.
I too would be interested in this. PIVC insertion and device selection has been audited to be poor and staff needing education at our facility.

Hi All,
Our IPC Team is currently reviewing our PIVC Policy and in line with the new PIVC Clinical Care Standards we want to place a big focus on pre insertion assessment, appropriate device selection and identification of difficult venous access.
We are hoping to develop some sort of inforgraphic, decision tree or flowchart for this.
I wondered if anyone else has implemented something similar at their facilities and if they would be happy to share there escalation pathways with me.
Many thanks,
Jacky
