Dear All,
Another component to consider is replacement parts for the sensor taps. We have had issues in the past as parts are not available thus sensor taps are out of commission.

Another thing to consider is how the sensor taps are powered. If they are battery powered you will need a routine battery replacement program so you dont end up with taps that dont work. And in the event of a power failure for mains connected ones how do staff wash their hands? Worth discussing these things with your hospital engineering team prior to placement.
Another option for hands-free taps is knee or leg operated switches. They can be mechanical, so dont require a power source.
Cheers

Subject: Re: Sensor taps on hand wash stationsHi Michelle,
The potential disadvantage of sensor taps is that they are more complex than manual taps and therefore cost more for routine maintenance. Sensor taps have been implicated in Legionella proliferation due to the plastic components providing surface attachment for the bacteria and the other risk factor for Legionella growth is that many of the sensor taps are low flow and timed for a 20 30 second maximum flow time, so cannot be flushed to prevent water stagnation.Regards

I am seeking your collective opinion about pan and bowl washer/disinfectors. I have always preferred separate units, based on my experience of visual soiling on bed pans that have completed a cycle. However I am now being asked to consider a combined unit.
What is your preference and why?
