    Organisation:

    State:

    HI Fiona,

    Screening for haemodialysis patients

    KHA-CARI draft haemodialysis infection
control guidelines (2017) were indicating that screening for VRE in haemodialysis
    patients was no longer required.

However still waiting for these haemodialysis
infection control guidelines to be finalised and reposted on their website.

We no longer routinely screen for VRE
in our dialysis clinics. We manage all patients with strict standard precautions
    and strict aseptic technique.

No affect on our VRE infection rates,
    which were previously rare anyway.

    With best regards

    VRE Management

    Dear Brains Trust,

    Our facility recently underwent accreditation
and there was surprise expressed at our ongoing screening of patients for
VRE, with verbal reports that a number of hospitals no longer routinely
    screen for VRE.

I would like to know what people are doing
    in their facilities

    • Do you screen or not screen?
    • If you screen, what patient population
      is screened?
    • If you have stopped screening Why?
    • If you have stopped screening what is the
      impact on VRE infection rates?
    • How are VRE positive patients managed?

    Kind regards,
