    Hi,

Based on multiple visits from various government departments, we have been advised that if there is a suspicion of PPE being contaminated with a communicable disease then it needs to go into clinical waste. One would think that if you are isolating because of a suspicion then that meets the criteria for disposal into clinical waste. However, this would depend on what state you are in, what document you read and who you speak with.

    Interested to hear others thoughts.

    Regards,

Hi Helen, I have been told its general waste unless visibly contaminated with something.

However depending on who talk eg Accreditation auditors it can be clinical.

    Kind regards,

    Good afternoon everyone,

Just enquiring in which waste bin (general or clinical) do staff put their PPE after being in a precautions room (MRSA, VRE, CDiff etc).

Currently, we put all our PPE in to clinical waste.

I cannot see a clear directive in the Guild line for Prevention and control of infection in healthcare.

Do you place it in general waste or clinical waste?

    Thanks in advance

    Helen

    Hi Helen

I know the ANMF Vic Branch has some good resources re: recycling in hospitals and have even held conferences on same.

Also there is a Green Team (unsure if this is there correct title) of Recycling Champions at Monash Health in Victoria. They have done some amazing work in this area and I am sure would be happy to share their ideas.

I dont have a contact for you, and have looked at the website without success, but I am sure if you contact Clayton Switchboard they should be able to direct your call.

    Good Luck!

    Afternoon,

I have been asked to look into recycling for the hospital.

Currently we do the PVC recycle and waterbottles /cans.

Just wondering if anyone has some recycling ideas within the hospital that are not to hard to get up and running.

And if you could share your contacts I would appreciate it.

Please send to my private email.

    Thanks in advance

    Hi Sarah

I am new to the Infection Control scene but have been a Registered Nurse in several residential aged care homes in Melbourne over the past 5 years or so and before that working in hospital and rehab sectors both as a nurse manager and a quality manager.

Please feel free to contact me anytime. I have found this network of people really helpful and whilst not all issues are specific to Aged Care, there are learnings that can be adapted to the residential aged care environment.

    Good luck and welcome!

    Hi Mary

Thanks so much for reaching out. It is quite difficult when I dont have a network built up yet but am excited to get onboard with this group.

I was a member of a similar organization in the US and found that invaluable.

Hello Sarah, and welcome to Melbourne.

Hope you are settling in well, and managing to make sense of our accents, abbreviations and other distinctive local features like the weather!

Im sure you will find a wide and supportive community amongst ACIPC professionals.

I am currently working in the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), in the COVID19 Public Health Unit. We are nurses in the Infection Prevention and Control Outreach Nurses (IPCON) group, and have had lots of activity within aged care, in both our prevention and outbreak arms.

Emails from ACIPC Infexion Connexion come to our email addresses, so you have just gained a whole lot of colleagues in the job.

Wishing you good luck in your work as your feet hit the ground again!

    Kindest regards

Mary Fraser (one of several Marys in IPCON)

    Good Afternoon,

I have recently joined this community having recently moved from California.

I would love to meet and network with other IPs who are working in the Aged Care Sector.

I am based in Victoria and just coming down from the COVID roller coaster here.

I would be happy to share learnings that we have had and see what others are doing within their residences for strategies in general.

    Thanks

    Hello brains trust

    Just a quick survey

For those of you who run COVID19 testing clinics is it a requirement that
staff working in this clinic are required to have had flu vaccine 2019 to
be eligible to work in this zone ?

Just trying to get an idea as I am being asked as we have some anti vaxers
and some staff who cant have flu vaccine applying to work in the COVID
testing clinics – I would be interested in what other are doing & if there
    is any consensus

    Please click either

yes – must be flu vaccinated to work in COVID19 clinic

No – not mandatory to work in COVID 19 Clinic

Thanks for your feedback – much appreciated.hope you are keeping well

    Hi everyone.

We’re looking for labs that will analyse environmental swabs for the presence (and ideally numbers) of any pathogens on surfaces.

We’d like to implement this as part of our infection control auditing.

Does anyone know of any labs that will do this for private clinics?

I’ve searched the internet and spoken to some other healthcare providers, but have not had much luck so far.

    Thanks!

    Kind regards,

    Annette Lenarz
