HI Sarah,
We have been following the NSW CEC health care worker COVID-19 Exposure Risk Assessment Matrix, to prevent our staff being classified as close contacts so they are not required to go into quarantine.
Our staff wear faceshields and either facemasks or N95 masks dependant on patient contact, at all times anywhere in the clinic. We also ensure only one staff member in the tea room at a time when PPE is removed.

Subject: [ACIPC_Infexion_Connexion] PPE precautions in hospitals to reduce furloughs*** This message is from an EXTERNAL SENDER – be CAUTIOUS with links and when opening attachments ***
Good morning fellow IPCs,
I work in aged care and as many of you know, we were very badly hit last year with furloughing of staff and have seen a higher propensity for this following current Victoria health department guidelines.
I have heard through our grapevine that some of the Victoria hospitals are adding N95 for all patient-facing staff to aid with reducing the level of furlough based on current health department guidelines.
Is anyone out there willing to share what you are currently doing to address this issue and the rationale?
I would like to align with our partners in care regarding current practices. Thanks in advance for your help and support.
Regards
Sarah

Hi All,
I was interested if anyone had developed a Risk assessment tool/questionnaire looking at the risk of exposure to staff and patients within in their workspaces/critical staff etc. for COVID.
Kind regards,
Leisa

HI Jenny,
Most of our clinics are now using disposable linen. Clinics not using disposable linen send linen out to an external laundry service, usually only blankets are needed.
Generally blankets are kept for a week (if not soiled) in the individual patients lockers and then sent for cleaning at the end of the week.
Patients can bring in additional linen of their own which is kept in individual lockers and they take responsibility of cleaning their own linen.
We discourage using a sheet on the chair, that used to happen in the ‘old days’ when patients had material covered dialysis chairs and they are a risk for tripping and covering the chair controls.Carolyn Chenoweth
