Hi – I am about to have a meeting with our exec and architect to review redevelopment plans that show that haemodialysis and the day oncology unit will be amalgamated. I obviously have concerns about this situation. I would be very interested in hearing thoughts and advice from the group. Thanks Lesley Stewart

Hi
We have had our own made as we found some of the plastic items break easily and we were restricted by Fire Egress rails and space
This idea was originally designed by one of our clinical ward NUMsWe went to Bunnings and purchased white baskets, one bracket came from Detergent wipe suppliers, and glove brackets from gloves supplier.
We did a risk assessment with WHS and Fire Safety to ensure they complied with paths of travel and WHS measurementsWe then have a fantastic maintenance department at our hospital who has installed them

Hi Donna
We had a similar issue with our maternity manager. Like you a risk assessment was conducted and the risk was low. We have continued with the ABHR at the bed and at the doorway.
It is an expectation, that the children visiting ANY ward are supervised by an adult.
We have not had any reports of incidents.
We also have one at our front foyer that is low enough for adults in wheelchairs, and children to use.
It is my most used ABHR by the public, and when we introduced it, was very well received by people with children, and the fact that it encourages good hand hygiene from such a young age

Hello,
I have recently moved the ABHR from wall mounted near the door of patient rooms to attached to the frame of bed, in line with CHRISP guidelines. I have also added additional ABHR at entrance to patient room door in an effort to increase hand hygiene compliance. This seems to have worked. Maternity manager is complaining that there is a risk to visiting children in that ward. Risk assessment was done prior to moving the ABHR with workplace health and safety and we also consulted the hand hygiene generic risk assessment. We found the risk to be low. I have spoken with other maternity wards in other hospitals where they have ABHR attached to the frame of beds without any issues. Has anyone else had any problems or incidents involving paediatric visitors? There are paediatric visitors to every ward of the hospital not just maternity, no incidents have been reported in them either.
Any advice/input would be much appreciated.Kind Regards,

We put up isolation signs in our private hospital, rehab patients that have MRO’s and cannot mix with group therapy, have one on one sessions with Physio’s, OT’s etc. Unless they can be gowned, and masked to attend. Clearly incontinent and weeping wound patients with MRO’s do not attend.

Dear All,
I am fielding this question on behalf of a colleague. How are infection control precautions for MROs to be maintained in a rehab setting when patients are doing group therapy? Especially in a private hospital where isolation signs are not allowed to be put up outside the patient’s room as it “might upset” the patient. Some of these patients have MRSA or VRE and even MRPA. They are incontinent, have weeping wounds, etc. How can minimise risk for the other patients in such conditions?Rita Roy
