Dear Holly,
I find that even staff do not always understand that while ABHR is active against influenza virus etc and MROs generally, that hand washing must prevail for food/ toilet etc activities because alcohol (70%) is not considered suitable for inactivation of norovirus gastro. So if this is the case for staff, then it is going to be harder to make this distinction for visitors. I have thought that if we always use the umbrella term hand hygiene and make the above two points, then people get it. It doesnt help to see alcohol pumps in toilets

Thanks for sharing the resource focused on visitor hand hygiene
I am currently leading some research around patient/visitor involvement around infection control and have come across some international examples of posters/resources.
The main issue is that they dont provide any rational for the practice- which is an issue as we know that patients (and some providers) fail to link HH with infections.
I would be happy to work with any groups to develop resources that encourage engagement
Cheers
Holly
