Hi all,
Can anyone help with the question below.
Haemodialysis patients, have a chronic disease and impaired immune
systems. If a patient on a haemodialysis shift is diagnosed with whooping
cough, do the other patients need to receive booster immunisations?Sincerely

Hi Carolyn
Most likely this is the best option as per the Immunisation guidelines.
Particularly the patients in the nearby bays, due to the length of time in close proximity, unless the contacts have confirmed immunity / previous adult booster.
If patients are isolated from each other via single rooms, this would make a difference.
However, this would need to be discussed with each patients’ Physician, or advice from an ID Physician, regarding the patients’ ‘health’ at the time and the risks / benefits.Regards

10/08/2011 at 12:10 pm #68709Dear Sir/Madam,
I note the issue regular disposal of sued disinfectants is addressed in the Queensland Health, 2011, Surgical Skin Antisepsis in Operating Theatres. http://www.health.qld.gov.au/chrisp/resources/rec_prac_skinprep.pdf, section 7, point Expiry dates, page 5, which states:
o aqueous povidone-iodine expires one month after opening;
o alcoholic solutions must be discarded six (6) months after opening.
I would like to know whether the above mentioned recommendations are common infection control practices in Australia, and additional references to support this practice.
Yours sincerely,
