    Dear ACIPC members

The WHO Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Global Unit launched the new WHO Guidelines on Core Components of Infection Prevention and Control Programmes at the National and Acute Health Care Facility Level. The guideline is a recommendation for the critical elements of national and facility-level IPC programs using both a strong evidence-based approach as well as a practical approach: http://www.who.int/gpsc/ipc-components/en/

Eight areas in the IPC were addressed key areas of a program with 11 recommendations and 3 Good Practice Statements. The core component guidelines for IPC programmes form a key part of WHO strategies to prevent current and future outbreaks threats of highly transmissible diseases including Ebola to strengthen health service resilience.
The intension of the WHO Core Components Guidelines is to support countries and healthcare facilities develop or strengthen their IPC within the context of their AMR national action plan. The concurrent launching of the new World Antibiotic Awareness Week http://www.who.int/campaigns/world-antibiotic-awareness-week/en/ was purposeful as IPC is an integral component to the control of antibiotic resistance.
