Hi ACIPC Colleagues,
Our facility has launched electronic documentation and with that the use of computers on wheels. From an infection control point of view I’m recommending either covered or washable keyboards and mice.
We’ve tried the ‘SteriClick’ keyboard and the feedback from users has been that the keys are so stiff and hard to push that staff are refusing to use them. For those of you using computers on wheels – what washable key boards and mice are you successfully using? or are you using covers and if so do they work? When I raised the possibility of using covers here feedback was that these would be flipped off and not used.
Anyone have suggestions?

I don’t have experience of any keyboard covers in Australia but the NHS UK used steritouch. If I remember they had a indicator light when the cover required cleaning. I don’t recall any problems with the use of the keys.

Hi,
CSD use Clinell easy clean: The keyboard is a wee bit stiffer than normal, however still easy to use. They did a free trial with the hospital and they are now used on theatre, endo CSD etc.Regards Kerrin

The keyboards with the cover are an absolute nightmare and the staff just remove them or “lose” them as they don’t like typing through the cover. A sealed washable keyboard is the best option.

Hi all,
A few years ago, I typed on a projected keyboard. The projector was a cube-shaped object about the size of a rubrics cube which projected a keyboard onto the table top.
The size of the keyboard was adjustable. I typed by hitting the projected keys, simply tapping on the table top.
The projector must have tracked my finger movements, because the transfer from typed key to screen was 100 percent accurate.
I found it fascinating and not weird at all, other people found is more difficult to adjust too.These types of keyboards seemed to be still on the market, but are geared to smartphones and tablets.
Maybe this technology can be adjusted somehow to work with PCs?re the cleaning: Wipe the table top!!
