William Robert Jarvis, MD – Bio:
Dr. William Jarvis is President of Jason and Jarvis Associates, private
consultants inEpidemiology and Infectious Diseases, located in Hilton Head Island,
South Carolina.He is also a Clinical Associate Professor of Pediatric Infectious
Diseases, Immunologyand Epidemiology at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta,
Georgia, and anAdjunct Assistant Professor at Emory University’s Rollins School of
Public Health.Previous roles and achievements include Acting Director for 17 years for
the CDCdeveloping guidelines for the prevention of infection in healthcare
settings, a contributorto 2009 WHO Guidelines, 2010 winner of the CDC Lifetime Achievement
Award, over400 peer-reviewed publications, editor of 3 books and over 50 CDC
surveillancereports.
After earning his medical degree from the University of Texas Health
Science Center(UTHSC) School of Medicine in Houston, Dr. Jarvis completed his Straight
PediatricsInternship at UTHSC. He then completed his Pediatrics Residency at the
Children’sHospital of Los Angeles, in conjunction with the University of Southern
California.Subsequently, he was awarded a Teaching Fellowship in Pediatric
Infectious Diseasesat the Hospital for Sick Children-University of Toronto, in Ontario,
Canada, followed bya Postdoctoral Fellowship in Infectious Diseases (Virology) at the Yale
UniversitySchool of Medicine’s Department of Pediatrics, Epidemiology and Public
Health in NewHaven, Connecticut. He then served as the Epidemic Intelligence Service
Officer at theHospital Infections Branch of the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta,
Georgia, wherehe remained to complete a Preventive Medicine Residency. He is board
certified inPediatrics, Infectious Diseases and Preventive Medicine, and is licensed
to practice inCalifornia, Georgia and Texas.
Dr. Jarvis is a Fellow of the Infectious Diseases Society of America
(IDSA), the Societyfor Healthcare Epidemiology of America and the American Academy of
Pediatrics, anda member of the American Society for Microbiology, the Association for
Professions inInfection Control and Epidemiology, and the Pediatric Infectious
Diseases Society. Inaddition, he has served on countless committees and boards. A prolific
writer, Dr.Jarvis has published his work in numerous journals, including the New
England Journalof Medicine, the Journal of Infectious Diseases, and Seminars in
Pediatric InfectiousDiseases, and he has given many presentations internationally.
