ASUM (Australasian Society for Ultrasound in Medicine) have updated
their Statement on Disinfection of Transducers.http://www.asum.com.au/site/files/P&S/B2_policy.pdf
The main change from an infection control perspective that I would note
is: “NB: It must be noted that sodium hypochlorite (e.g. Milton) is not
TGA approved for high level disinfection of medical equipment and is not
suitable for use in disinfecting Transducers”.Finally this guideline comes into line with other disinfection
guidelines for intracavity transducers.Cheers

Thank you for this update version of the ASUM guidelines Michael. I
note with interest that a number of items remain out of date in relation
to terminology and recommendations pertaining to Infection Prevention &
Control. I note in particular the use of the term “Universal
Precautions” (followed swiftly by the term standard precautions). Also
the direction as to when hands should be “washed” (namely before and
after direct patient contact), strike me as somewhat outdated. Not sure
if there was any IC community engagement review on this document but I
