Good afternoon brains trust,
Does anyone know if it is possible to transport Colon/Gas scopes between two sister healthcare facilities (about 20 minutes drive apart) without resterilising and micro-testing?Would appreciate any advice on this matter.

27/03/2019 at 12:33 am #75275Hi Pam,
Unless you can guarantee the temperature, humidity and cleanliness of the items in transit then the short answer is no. At present the transport of sterilised items such as RMDs in Australia is very much ad-hoc and not up to AS/NZS4187.
To maintain integrity of items they need to be transported at a temperature range of 18-25C with a humidity range of 35-70%. The environment of the transport vehicle should also be that of a clean room i.e. with a separate HEPA filtered compartment for the goods.
The only way to guarantee this is to transport in a vehicle that has been purpose built and is fully trackable for the length of transit including constant temperature and humidity tracking. At present there are a limited number of these type of custom built vehicles that are used to transport sterile goods and RMDs between hospitals.
I hope this may provide you some answers. Cheers.
Kind regards,
