NSWHere we have a possible novel way to determine presence or absence of some specific infections that can be done at the point of care – no need for a lab!
Is this the future for infectious disease identification? Will we see patients ordering these over the internet to do self-diagnosis?
Great for poor resource areas, though, if it can be shown to work satisfactorily.
Cheers

Hi Michael,
Yes, POC (point of care) testing is everywhere now, eg, home pregnancy
testing,
drug swab tests in Customs, BGL’s, SaO2 at the bedside etc.
A nice summary is at :https://jcm.asm.org/content/55/8/2313
Newer tech is looking at POC testing for bacterial DNA/viral RNA.
