Hello Brains Trust,
Our Maternity Unit and anesthetist’s have raised the question about the strength of antimicrobial soap for surgical scrub prior to inserting an epidural in Birthing Suite.
We are using 4% Chlorhexidine hand wash in Operating theatre for surgical hand wash.
Throughout the hospital, we provide and recommend 2% Chlorhexidine soap (or 0.5% Chlorhexidine ABHR) prior to any invasive/aseptic procedures.
To avoid installing multiple strength hand hygiene products in every Birthing Suite including confusion of staff, I would like to know what are the recommendations or practices in other facilities.
What strength antimicrobial soap are you using/recommending for surgical scrub in ICU, Maternity or ED when performing surgical aseptic technique procedures (e.g. inserting central lines, epidurals)?
Kind Regards
Sonja
