    The Sydney of University Centre for Excellence in Critical Infection: Short Course in Critical Infection 2013

    20th and 21st September 2013

    The SCCI is designed for the practicing intensivist and for those who manage critically ill patients. Faculty includes leaders in infectious diseases, microbiology & intensive care

    This 2day course provides a firstprinciples understanding of the major infections that precipitate or complicate critical illness, as well as a focus on the practical management of scenarios that are unique to it.

    This activity has been accredited by ACEM CPD for a maximum of 6 points and by CICM as Category 2APassive Group Learning, 1 point per hour. It satisfies the MOPs/CPD criteria of RACP and RCPA.

    Topics include;
    Bacterial, fungal and viral physiology and ecology
    Antibiotics, antivirals, antifungals how to use and when to stop
    New Antimicrobials and new takes on old drugs
    Septic shock; severe pneumonia; meningitis/ Encephalitis
    Approach to the infected transplant patient; neutropaenic
    sepsis
    Casebased topics with expert panel reviews
    How a micro lab really works
    Exotic infections, biothreats and the returned traveller
