Dear Collegues,
just wondering if any of you guys who have NICU’s (level 2/3 ) at your
facilities do these areas use safety cannula (active or passive devicis)
for cannulation on their neonates. We have been trying over several years to move our medical staff over
to safety cannula (we had a particualry nasty high risk Occ exposure
with a non safety device) but it has been really hard …. ..(currently
less than 50% will even consider using a safety cannul a for bigger
babies but not tiny ones)We have been using a passive safety cannula devices successfully here
in all our adult wards for > 5 years now………….so I was wondering
if any one out there has cracked the code and been successful
specifically with changing all their NICU / paeds clinicans over to
using safety cannula as a particuclar group .My lovely NICU collegues emailed all NICUs in Aus & NZ asking them
what they used and if they have trialed any safety cannula devices in
their units………and to date the 7 replies they got from Tasmania,
Victoria, Queensland, NZ (x2) and NSW (x2) all indicated that none of
them were currently using safety cannula devices in their units & only
x1 had trailed one type.anyone out there who is i would be greatful to get in contact with to
know
1.what type of device are they using.
2.How did you manage to get the changeover process working for all
staff
3.How long have your NICU been using the safety cannuls device.
4.what were the resistance issues you experienced and how did you
overcome themthanks for your help
regards
Lindy
