    Good afternoon,

We are seeking nominations for attendees of the inaugural Regional Health Security Outbreak Response Training (RHSORT), to be held in Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia, from 4-8 April 2020.

The intent of RHSORT is provide a complementary pre-deployment training option in addition to the highly competitive Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network (GOARN) face-to face-trainings and other courses offered by our partners. With the current COVID-19 outbreak impacting of many countries in the Indo-Pacific region, this as an opportunity to help prepare people from the region who will likely be involved in this, or similar, responses in the future.

The training will be delivered jointly by the faculty of the National Critical Care and Trauma Response Centre (NCCTRC) in collaboration with the Indo-Pacific Centre for Health Security and partners. The NCCTRC is a flagship Centre of Excellence funded by the Australian Government that provides preparedness training to organisations, communities and governments for effective response to disasters and other health emergencies.

The content of the course will be broadly aligned with GOARN tier 2 training content, but regionally focussed and equally relevant for any potential deployee whether through GOARN or another deployment modality. As we will not be following the exact selection processes of GOARN nor implementing all of the GOARN in-course assessments, the program is not currently accredited as a GOARN Tier 2 training.

We are seeking nominations with relevant specialisations including: epidemiology; infection prevention and control; case management; laboratory; emergency risk communications; community engagement; animal health; and logistics.

Action required: Please distribute this email as appropriate to interested persons of suitable specialisations. We ask interested persons to complete an individual nomination form and attach a letter of motivation and a signed letter from supervisor (further detail is provided on the nomination form). Completed forms with both letters are to be emailed to chs@dfat.gov.au with the subject line ‘RHSORT nomination’ by 17:00 Thursday 5 March 2020. Participants will be advised the week of 9 March if they have been selected for the training.

Administration details: Flights will be organised and paid for through a managing contractor engaged by the Indo-Pacific Centre for Health Security. If travelling from outside Australia, participants will need to ensure they have a valid passport. Support letters will be provided if required to facilitate provision of visas. Participants will need to arrive into Darwin no later than Friday 3 April. Participants will stay overnight in Darwin at the Mercure Airport Resort (this will be booked for participants) before being transported to the Bees Creek training facility outside of Darwin on Saturday 4 April. Participants will remain at the facility for the duration of the course. As this is a fully residential course with catering provided, no per diem will be paid. Participants can expect to depart from Darwin on the afternoon of 8 April.
