Hi All
Hoping someone is able to provide guidance for us.
Our Organisation is about to undergo a redevelopment of our Women’s and Children’s Unit which comprises of 9 paediatric beds including 2 isolation Rooms and 14 Obstetric beds which are currently separated into two areas by nurses desks and pan room etc. In the redevelopment the area between the two sub units will become a single nurses station and admin area and the pan room which is currently located between the two areas will be located at the end of the Obstetric area. This will mean that any clinical waste will be required to be carried through the Obstetric area past 7 Obstetric beds and the Nurses station. We believe this may poses an infection control risk to our patient. However we are struggling to find any evidence to back up our concerns.
Does anyone know of any guidelines that encompass transport of clinical waste though a clean area, pan room location with respect to transportation of infectious waste etc.
