    Dear Sally

You and others may or may not be aware of the ACORN Standards for Perioperative Nursing. Now in their 15th edition they address many issues in detail which are not explicitly covered in currently available infection control guidelines. They also contain a significant amount of non-infection control related information for perioperative nurses. They are evidence-based and peer-reviewed. They also align where possible with the relevant national infection control guidelines. You will appreciate that we are still waiting for advice from NHMRC regarding when the next version is to be released.

For transparency it is important that you and others know I am working with ACORN as their Professional Standards Officer. Regardless of that I have used the ACORN Standards many times over their life and mine in infection control. I am writing this post as Cath Murphy not as ACORN’s PSO.

It may also be of comfort for you to know that many of our infection control colleagues are involved with the development of the ACORN Standards and/or routinely use them.

More information about accessing the Standards is available on ACORN’s website at https://www.acorn.org.au/standards/

    Warm regards
    Cath
