Hi Michael
Kindly post this enquiry to the group for some comment.
Hi All
This is a product that has just been brought to my attention and as radiology is an area that uses invasive devices this has become as a highlight for possible risk that I need clarified. The product attached is a new product which was developed by a Radiographer and has been identified as very cost effective a study (attached) identified it as safe for preventing transmission of potentially harmful organisms.
However, the same year the study was done a safety alert was released http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/778964 regarding the use of multiple dosing systems (more to do with the contrast than the system itself). I have had a look at the system and my worry is that although the system itself has been TGA approved and ticks the boxes, it still has the potential for easy contamination on the patient side where the users are not complying with basic infection control practices including hand hygiene and aseptic technique.
I may be overreacting on this one, but what interests me is that surveillance of septic patients coming into acute facilities may not be picked up as healthcare related due to presence of invasive devices in such areas as it can be easily overlooked as community associated infections. In short would we be able to easily identify complications related to such procedures in routine surveillance.
What do others think?
Kind Regards
Verily Thomas
