This article is a preprint and has not been peer-reviewed [what does this mean?]. It reports new medical research that has yet to be evaluated and so should not be used to guide clinical practice.

Dear Colleagues
The challenges of responding to COVID-19 increase and will continue to do so for some time. As social distancing strategies are gradually implemented, we will all need to adjust our work and day to day lives appropriately.
No doubt many members have had to direct all their attention and resources to providing their expert advice to their workplace, family and friends to address the spread of COVID-19.
At this time there is also an overload of information. Messages from State, Territory and Commonwealth governments have not always aligned, and can confuse. To this end ACIPC applauds the establishment of the National Cabinet comprising the Prime Minister, State Premiers and Territory Chief Ministers to address our national concerns in a uniform manner.
The volume of information from usual media and social media is also overwhelming. A recent article describes some methods to help manage this overload.
Our list, Infexion Connexion, is also another source of information (as is Ozbug for those who subscribe). We endeavour to ensure information posted on Infexion Connexion is accurate, and one way to do this is to only post links to articles that have been peer reviewed. However, we also appreciate due to the rapidly evolving situation, it is not always possible to undertake peer review processes.
It is important to understand, that if an article has not been peer reviewed, it might contain errors, and report information that has not yet been accepted or endorsed in any way by the scientific or medical community. (https://www.medrxiv.org/content/what-unrefereed-preprint).
Therefore any article not peer reviewed must be read with caution.
To continue the sharing of information on Infexion Connexion, we request that all members who post in reference to articles that are not peer reviewed, that this be clearly declared and highlighted in the post, using the text below:
This article is not peer reviewed, may contain errors and has not been endorsed by the scientific or medical community
I am sure you will understand the importance of ensuring ACIPC provides accurate information to our members, and in these extraordinary times, this is one strategy we can employ to help facilitate this. I also encourage you to use the ACIPC links to jurisdictional health departments for daily updates in your area.
Kind regards,
Phil Russo
ACIPC President
