Hi Jayne
Our policy CVC policy /dressing change includes the use of a transparent
semi-permeable dressing for patients and does not include reference to people with
a sensitivity or allergy to dressings. However, with central line sites that are
constantly oozing, or where the patient is diaphoretic, we recommend the use of
sterile gauze secured with tape over the site, instead of a transparent
semi-permeable dressing. Where gauze is used the dressing requires daily review
and change at least every other day (reference – Journal of Infusion Nursing,
2011. Infusion Nursing Standards of Practice (34)1S: S63)With thanks, Cate

Hi All,We are currently reviewing our CVAD policies and a question arose around
the use of sterile gauze and tape for those patients who have allergies
to transparent semi permeable dressings. Does anyone have advise on how
frequent the gauze & tape should be changed, apart from the obvious
soiling etc.Look forward to your responses.
Kind regards
Jayne
