Hi Deborah,
We have been through accreditation with regards to Antimicrobial Stewardship, outbreak management etc.
They wanted to review our outbreak management plan should be re-titled now to Acute respiratory outbreak management due to changes in wording September/October. They wanted to see any evaluations following outbreaks, check our zoning for donning/doffing PPE, they sought feedback from family members and residents were really interested to know how we communicated to everyone. Obviously wanted to see that everyone had done hand hygiene, donning and doffing and infection control training.
Antimicrobial Stewardship wanted to see that information was being provided to residents/representatives. That we were requesting pathogens prior to administering antibiotics. Asking how much time was spent on infection management by IPC lead. Other information we provide to residents regarding infections (urinary tract infection prevention).
How this information was escalated and reported to the senior management team/directors/board. Also how staff were advised of outbreaks. They also checked rosters to ensure that all areas were covered with appropriately trained staff. Checking to see that staff on the floor have access to the outbreak management plan and know where to access it.
Hope this is helpful and good luck with your accreditation.
