    Afternoon

I was just wondering how other sites if they are conducting RAT testing for patient admissions how this is being conducted, who runs/manages/coordinates the staff etc and respond to any positive cases etc.
And also, are other infection prevention and control departments having to be actively involved with the issue with patients who have previously had COVID and the timing around their surgery which should be a discussion between patient, surgeon and anaesthetist?

I am just wanting to get an idea what other facilities are doing currently and how we can change the current practice with our extremely limited resources.

    Thanks

    G’day Lynnette.

In the Solomon Islands, to share with you, for patients Admissions we have 2 entry points swabbing tenths in the hospital, one at the A&E & one tent is next to it for other admissions. For surgery even if it they have been swabbed at the entry, the trained swabbers in the wards do swabs prior to their operation.

We have IPC link nurses at each units, they are trained to do swabbing.

    Thank you,

    Betty

    Hi Lyn

We stopped routine RAT testing on admission at both facilities some time ago, as there is no QLD Health mandate for this, and we had performed several thousand tests for one single unknown positive! We still ask pertinent pre-admission questions (are you unwell currently, are you a close contact, that sort of thing), but we only test (and from a clinical perspective a PCR or rapid PCR is preferred if we are looking to detect infection) on clinical need (eg patient turned up for routine elective admission and is clearly unwell).

We still RAT test transfers out to other facilities, mainly to prevent delay in transfers rather than anything else.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers
    Michael

    Afternoon,

Just wanting to find out how the various private and public sectors are managing RAT testing patients if at all on admissions, we are trying to figure out whether or not to continue with this as it is resource draining and staff are needed elsewhere.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

Thanks a lot, we actually have picked up quite a few positive RATS, a mixture of symptomatic and asymptomatic patients but most likely will just move solely to the screening form and testing symptomatic patients but still test inter hospital transfers etc.

    Hi Lynette,

St Andrews Village aged care are still currently RAT testing all visitors as Ballina has quite a number of community based COVID v4 and 5. Have had some positive readings and we have then forwarded them to have a PCR test. Only 1 staff member with long COVID. No residents currently affected. We manage all our testing in house and are not utilising PHU or staff from elsewhere.

    Hi Lynette

We are still RAT and PCR testing all admissions and have picked up a number of patients this way. We are the only tertiary facility in the top end with a very vulnerable patient cohort so our approach is generally conservative. This is done routinely in the emergency department for patients being admitted rather than via screeners.

    Cheers

    Afternoon,

Thanks a lot for this information, it’s interesting to hear the different approaches we have been RAT testing and have certainly picked quite a number of positives this way that we might not otherwise have picked up as these were elective admissions and a lot had stated on their screening admission forms that they had no COVID symptoms but were positive on our staff doing their RAT and when I went over the screening form with them they did admit to mild symptoms plus we have had a number of asymptomatic patients coming through too.

    With kind regards

We are still RAT and PCR testing all admissions and have picked up a number of patients this way. We are the only tertiary facility in the top end with a very vulnerable patient cohort so our approach is generally conservative. This is done routinely in the emergency department for patients being admitted rather than via screeners.

Mount Gambier Hospital is screening all patients and RAT if symptomatic and or meet epidemiological risk factors in ED. All patients to be admitted have a RAT in ED prior to going to the ward and have a PCR 24hrs after admission and every 72 hours until discharge. We have picked up a number of asymptomatic Covid+ infections during screening.

    Hi Lyn

I work in private in NSW.
We ask all patients to RAT the morning of admission and take a photo of result.
If they can’t manage we do it when they get here. Most do it themselves.
We also screen, with questions when they get here!

    Afternoon,

Just wanting to find out how the various private and public sectors are managing RAT testing patients if at all on admissions, we are trying to figure out whether or not to continue with this as it is resource draining and staff are needed elsewhere.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    With kind regards
