Wondering if there are any guidelines re: staff who are working in full PPE
and having a drink bottle (? Type) on hand to sip whilst working in a
clinical (residential) care setting.I am aware of the need for increased breaks whilst wearing PPE, but is there
any guidance about drinking from a drink bottle (and ? a specific type)
whilst on shift and running around or not to drink?What about when there is no outbreak and staff are not wearing PPE?

Hi Vanessa,
We don’t allow staff to drink while on the floor as you have to look at where the drink bottles are kept, who has access to them, they are another portal for infection.
If you are in full PPE and touch a drink bottle you would have to change your PPE, just like you would if you went into individual rooms.
Our staff are only allowed to have drink bottles etc in the lunch room where PPE is not allowed.You would have to think of all the risks.

Hi Vanessa,
As part of our processes with our dedicated sanitisation staff for the Aged Care and Healthcare groups we work with, we do not allow them to carry drink bottles or drink water from a bottle during shift. We have increased break times to allow staff to drink in dedicated areas (tea rooms, outside etc).
We have applied this across the board, even in completely green sites (no COVID residents) to mitigate any cross contamination and risk to the residents and staff.
