    Good Morning All

    We are currently reviewing how best to ensure the provision of protective eyewear in all clinical settings to improve compliance with use when indicated as per standard precautions and Transmission-based precautions.
    We are weighing up the pros and cons of reusable vs disposable options, appropriate locations for stored items ready for use.

    1. Reusable protective eyewear:

    * Benefit of provision of individual pair to each staff member to keep on their person.

    * Most appropriate location to store reusable protective eyewear, considering accessibility – point of use vs central location

    * Recommended cleaning/disinfection regime between use.

    2. Disposable eyewear:

    * Full-face visors,

    o fully disposable, or

    o disposable shield with retained frame (then also need to consider all the points under option 1 )

    * Fluid-repellent masks with attached visor (con – patient can’t view staff face, and staff hate wearing masks, pro – relatively cheap)

    * Most appropriate storage location, point of use vs central location

    * If point of use – do we need to consider provision of a dispenser, and if so does anyone know of a wall mounted dispenser for visors or mask/visors?

    I would be very interested in hearing from anyone who has address this and arrived a good solution that has demonstrated improvement in compliance.

    Thank you in advance for your collective wisdom that you may shed on this matter.

    Cheers

    Beth
