Hi team,
The release of the Management of Peripheral Intravenous Catheters Clinical Care Standard from the ACSQH has highlighted that the management of Peripheral Intravenous Catheters is a nation wide issue.
I enjoyed the presentation on ‘How Waitemata DHB (NZ) Revolutionised their IV Auditing Process’ looking at the auditing of IVC management, with that bedside audit model enabling issues to be immediately corrected.
My question is if anyone has developed an innovative way to enhance any aspect of IVC management and care? Do you feel that an aspect is done well in your facility? Have you introduced any strategies that have helped? Where you have had SABSIs have any recommendations reduced or prevented these and been well integrated into daily care? Does anyone use any digital solutions in the management or documentation of IVC’s?
If so please share with the group.
Our facility is a regional resource centre with around 170 inpatient beds, an ED and an ICU. We use a partially electronic record with digital progress notes but day to day paperwork on paper forms.
Thanks very much,
Erica Thompson Clinical Nurse Infection Prevention and Control, and CN in ED and ICU
