VICHi all
I was wondering if anyone had ever used particle air testing for theatres
post works/renovation instead of settle plates and the standard air testing
methods? Did you just use the particle air testing alone or combined both
methods? We are looking at releasing the theatre for emergency use with particle
testing and also doing the settle plate testing.Thoughts and any guidelines would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Jenny

Hi Jenny,
We have done particle counting in theatres for clients too, but then it is up to the infection control team to then assess the risk from those results, as there are no standards for particle counts in theatres. We used clean room standards to indicate how things were going from the particle counts.
I really wouldnt ever recommend doing settle plates as a microbiological test for an operating theatre. Its really not a good method for evaluating what is in the air at all. Any air testing should be carried out using an active sampler such as a MAS 100 (Merck) or similar.
Im in WA so we use the document Marija attached, and a lot of other states also use that document too.

Subject: Re: [ACIPC_Infexion_Connexion] Particle air testing for theatresHi Jenny,
When we have undertaken refurbishment of our theatres and with the build of NRAH we undertook both methods and ATP surface swabs, as well.
WA document attached is a good starting point.Anything that had results above >2CFU was re-cleaned and retested.
Kind Regards
