    Hi ACIPC Members,

The Fourth Australian report on antimicrobial use and resistance in human health (AURA 2021) will be released by the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care (the Commission) on 27 August 2021.

The AURA Reports inform policy and strategies to prevent and contain antimicrobial resistance, and clinical practice changes to improve patient care.

AURA 2021 highlights areas of concern for public health, and opportunities for action in response to antimicrobial resistance. These include: higher rates of prescribing antimicrobials than most European countries and Canada, and continuing prescribing of antimicrobials for conditions where there is no evidence of benefit, such as acute bronchitis. The report also found a significant decline in dispensing of antimicrobials in 2020 during the response to COVID-19 – an important outcome, which needs to be sustained to support reductions in AMR.

AURA 2021 will be launched in a live webcast event on Friday 27 August at 12:30 pm AEST.

The Media Alert form the Commission is attached and you can register to attend the live-streamed online panel discussion here https://kapara.rdbk.com.au/landers/33e36b.html

The report will be available tomorrow on the ACSHHC website.

    Kind Regards
