Hi
Just wondering what approach/opinions people have to notice boards in clinical areas?
Is it better to have a dedicated notice board made from material that does not deteriorate or to have posters etc blue tacked to walls?
ThanksLynne Sinclair RN

Hi Lynne
I operate wherever possible on the KICK principle: Keep It Clean, Kids. 🙂 So, if you have a covered notice board (eg glass doors or something) that can be easily wiped over, that is best. If not, as long as the notice board does not shed lint, and the edges can be easily kept dust free, still Ok in common public corridors but avoid treatment and accommodation rooms. Any posters in treatment or accommodation rooms should be laminated and stuck up with blue-tac or whatever your facility allows to put stuff onto walls, and be easily wipable.
Not a hard and fast set of rules, but some guiding principles for clinical areas. With not a shred of evidence to support it, I might say. Just good old common sense.
Cheers

Our facility will adopt a digital noticeboard. As all other existing options there are numerous challenges but this limits the IC component. Protocol “cleaning” of monitor surface will be in place. Blue tack has always been an issue with previous work experiences and obviously everyone has dedicated notice boards anyway. So a white/magnetic board where you can have the option to write or post in documents in single plastic protective sheets (discarded at a time when notices is no longer applicable), or for permanent ones can be done in laminates that are easy to wipe clean.
Happy posting
Roel

07/03/2014 at 11:32 am #70936Hi Lynne,
There is a product we use here and it is also used in other HCFs called a ‘Hold up’ for posters, they don’t replace signage boards but are very useful in clinical areas. It is basically a thin white metal bar with sizes to suit A4 or A3 etc.
We use the outside patient rooms for Precautions Signage, they are also used in clinics for signage. The page just rolls under, it take both laminated & non laminated pages and looks very neat, no need for Perspex holders or blue tack.
I am happy to send you the details if you are interested.
Regards
