    Organisation:

    State:

We provide some non-invasive ventilators for children to use at home, similar to a CPAP machine.

When they are returned to us we would like to reprocess them and provide to another family. They cost several thousand dollars.

The company has provided disinfection instructions.

    Below is what we do:

We throw out the masks and air tube anyways and dont use between patients. The humidifier bowls will go though the disinfectant machine.
When the device is used for multiple patients, filter, Air Tube, Mask & Humidifier are to be replaced or reprocessed between patients.

    Surface disinfection

Wipe the exterior surface of the device with a damp cloth and mild detergent or any commonly used antibacterial wipes.

We now have children with some significant organisms such as Mycobacterium abscessus and so enquired with the manufacturer re the capacity to disinfect inside the machines as they are usually used without a filter as they are used long term at home by the patients. The company weren’t able to provide any additional information.

Can anyone advise of they have investigated this or anything similar?
Can the non-invasive ventilators be reprocessed and used by other patients?
Would the presence of significant organisms change your requirements in reprocessing.

    Regards

    Janet
