Hi there, our organisation was recently added to the list of mandatory flu vaccination for clinical staff. We have a handful of people who are still not prepared to be vaccinated and have provided medical exemptions. Can you please tell me if anyone else has experienced this and if so, what are your requirements for allowing them to come to work. We are about to revise mandatory N95 mask wearing in all our patient-facing areas. Do you think it reasonable to ask non-vaccinated staff to continue to wear N95 masks while at work???
ThanksRegards,
Lynne Nicholas

Hello Lynne
I’m working as Infection Control Nurse in one of the rural health service in Central Victoria wherein it is mandated that everyone who works in the healthcare setting should have their influenza vaccination annually. We have some staff that provided us with medical exemption but they are under Category C and is not a patient facing role. They are still wearing N95 mask as a directive from the health service.
In the VICNISS website, there is an information there that can help you in this kind of situation wherein a risk assessment should be done if they are going decline their influenza vaccination. We make sure that our staff who are engaging in our RACF must have their yearly influenza vaccination.
Hope this helps and may you have a lovely afternoon.
Sincerely,
