Hi All,
Hoping that someone will be able to point me to some guidelines/evidence for the requirements for storage of high-level disinfected non-channelled nasoendoscopes? These are the scopes used by our speech therapists and ENT clinics. As they are not channelled they don’t entirely fit into the GENCA requirements for storage. The IFU indicates a storage cabinet but the rule in the IFU is simply “store the disinfected endoscope and accessories properly”.
I would really appreciate it if you could share with me the storage options you have chosen for your organisation and why.
We have scope storage cupboardsin some areas, but others are storing them in a storage tray in a sterile scope/probe cover racked on a storage trolley with plastic covers. I would really like to know if they must be in a storage cupboard or if the tray is adequate.
Hoping someone is able to assist
Kind regards
Kate Ryan

Hi, this was a challenge for us as well.
Where possible we chose nasoendoscopes that were able to go through a low temperature chemical sterilisation process. while under Spauldings some may not consider it necessary, it was easier for us in our clinics to have them go through the low temp steriliser in CSD.
This means they are stored in a scope specific covered tray ready to go. It did solve the storage dilemma!
For the one scope that was unable to go through this process, we had to come up with another option. I strongly encouraged the unit to look at a scope storage solution, however there are not many options available and none that were on the ARTG). Space was also an issue, not to mention the costs!!!!.
In the end, we set up a local workplace instruction, that outlined the cleaning and disinfection process of the scope, the cleaning of the same scope specific covered tray, and storage in the tray in a dedicated and cleaned cupboarded. The scope is reprocessed at a set frequency (three times a week) and after every use. We based this on the reference in Table 5.1 store to prevent environmental contamination in a dedicated storage area to protect RMD. The caveat of course, if the Spauldings risk changed, the device would be reprocessed (HLD) prior to and after use.
I hope this helps.
Kind regards
