Hello
What are the views on mobile bathing/shower trolleys for use in residential aged care. What do other RAC providers use if it isn’t a shower trolley? Whilst There are a number on the market, I have concerns regarding infection control such as ; if the seal is broken on the external coating , keeping it clean and being able to dry it out before the next person.
As a transport method for the transmission of micro-organisms I would rate this highly.Kind regards

Hello Robyn
Shower trolleys are used widely in many RACFs. This non-critical piece of equipment requires a cleaning and maintenance program as for all other non-critical equipment. Education of care and maintenance staff on cleaning of care equipment (between use and following maintenance) in accordance with manufacturer’s IFU and facility procedure should include shower trolleys. Regular monitoring and auditing of the hygiene of all equipment should be part of the RACF auditing program to evaluate compliance with cleaning and maintenance requirements.
Infection risk can be mitigated with implementation of the above processes.
Kind regards
