    You may be a medical practitioner, a microbiologist or an allied health professional that fits our requirements to be one of the next members of the CAPS. The CAPS is specifically seeking input into our processes around professional standards and credentialling for individuals working in the field of infection control. The newly named Credentialling Committee Credentialling Advisory & Review Panel (CARP) has recently been delighted to receive applications for review by individuals whom do not have a nurse background and who do not reside in Australia. To help us review and make recommendations about professional standards we invite you to be part of this important committee. If you are aware of any individuals whom might fit the bill please forward this information and encourage them to apply. More information is available via the College website.

    Background:
    For several years the AICA Credentialing Committee (CC) has been in operation under the auspices of the former AICA Executive. This work will continue under the direction of the Credentialling and Professional Standards (CAPS) Committee which is subject to annual revision by the Executive Council of the Australasian College for Infection Prevention and Control Ltd (ACIPC, hereafter referred to as the College).

    Establish and promulgate professional standards for the practice of infection prevention and control across Australasia
    Oversee through the Credentialling Advisory & Review Panel (CARP) the process of carrying out credentialing of its members. (Review of applications, recommendations to the EC for endorsement and awarding of CICP)
    Provide direction and input into position papers relating to professional issues
    Facilitate education programs targeted at improving professional standards of practice
    Determine the scope, role and function of the ICP
    Recommendation minimum criteria for inclusion in the ICP role
    Provide input into the curriculum of infection prevention and control courses by developing and implementing a course accreditation process congruent with professional standards of practice and the RCNA Endorsement criteria (CNE & 3LP)
    Provide leadership and direction on professional standards to the membership, employers and the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care (ACSQHC)

    To determine, develop, promulgate, and publish professional standards for infection prevention and control across Australasia.
    To review Credentialing applications of members and, to make a recommendation to the Executive Council on successful candidates for the award of CICP;
    The CAPS members will support the ACIPC credentialling process by:
    Encouraging ACIPC members residing in Australasia to undertake the credentialling process.
    Providing mentorship to support credentialling applicants.
    Applying a credentialling process that reflects current infection control practice, activities and functions.
    Developing a strategic plan which is reviewed annually.
    To carry out the above in conjunction with other committees of the Executive Council as appropriate

    Members will be appointed by written application to the Executive Council and will serve a term of two years. Members may seek re-appointment to the Committee via written application to the Executive Council;
    The CAPS will comprise of members of the ACIPC with the requisite skills and experience.
    The number of members required to form a Committee will be determined by the Executive Council;
    The initial membership of the Committee will comprise:
    A Chairperson appointed from the elected members of the Executive Council;
    Executive Council member (Chair)
    Administrative support (minute taker)
    Chair Credentialling Advisory & Review Panel (CARP)
    CICP (at least 2)
    Other interested College members (4) from any discipline but with an interest in infection prevention and control.
    A quorum of members, defined as half plus one of the appointed members, must be present for the Committee to be constituted and carry out its business;
    Other persons may be invited to attend the meetings at the request of the Chairperson or other committee members to provide advice and assistance where necessary. Such individuals may have right of audience and/or discussion and/or debate, but shall have no voting right;
    Decisions will be made by vote where all members carry a single vote. In the event that a tie occurs, the Chairperson shall have the casting vote; and
    Committee members will cease to be a member of the Committee if they: resign from the committee; fail to attend three consecutive meetings without providing apologies to the Chairperson; breach confidentiality.
    A list of the committee members and their terms of office will be maintained by the ACIPC Secretariat.

    Vacant Positions: Any vacant positions will be filled on a casual basis until the term of office has expired.

    Scheduling meetings and notifying committee members;
    Inviting specialists to attend meetings when required by the committee;
    Guiding the meeting according to the agenda and time available;
    Ensuring all discussion items end with a decision, action or definite outcome;
    Review and approve the draft minutes before distribution; andProvide formal reports to the Executive Council annually and at other times as required.

    Minute Taker Secretary: The role of the minute taker is to:
    Prepare agendas and issue notices for meetings, and ensure all necessary documents requiring discussion of comment are attached to the agenda.
    Distribute the agenda one week prior to the meeting;
    Take notes of proceedings and prepare minutes of meeting;
    Distribute the minutes to all committee members one week after the meeting
    The minutes shall be checked by the Chairperson and accepted by committee members as a true and accurate record at the commencement of the next meeting.

    Duration and Frequency of Meetings: Meetings shall usually be limited to 60 minutes maximum and be held monthly. The Chairperson may call a special or extraordinary meeting.

    Reporting
    The committee is required to undertake the following reporting:
    In accordance with ACIPC Foundation Operational Guidelines, the Chairperson of the CAPS Committee must ensure that a formal written report of tasks undertaken is presented at ACIPC Executive Council annually and at other times as required.

    Selection criteria
    APPOINTMENT TO THE COMMITTEE
    The ACIPC EC shall call for nominations and appoint members to the committee in accordance with the ACIPC Operational Guidelines Appointment to Internal/External Committees on the basis of the following criteria:
    Committee members:
    must have a minimum 5 years relevant experience in the field of IPC
    be a current financial member of ACIPC
    must hold a current practicing license
    must reside in Australasia
    must be currently employed (full or part time) or self-employed in the field of infection control in Australasia.
    KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
    High level written and oral communication skills;
    Previous experience on committees;
    Capacity to think and act strategically;
    Previous experience in leadership roles.
    Understanding of and an ability to work and liaise with committee members across ACIPC;
    Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
    Willingness to work cohesively with ACIPC Executive Council.
    DESIRABLE CRITERIA
    That the applicant:
    is actively engaged in the promotion of ACIPC credentialing;
    has provided assistance to another ACIPC member to undertake the credentialling process;
    is a member of an Australian accredited tertiary education provider, either in a full time, part time or sessional capacity.
    has experience in the development of professional standards (in health related disciplines)
    has experience in the review of competency based standards/scope of practice
    HOW TO APPLY
    Applicants must apply in writing and include the following:
    oA current CV which illustrates you meet the essential criteria;
    oA letter outlining why you would be a suitable candidate for appointment of Committee member. The letter should be no more than 500 words and highlight your skills and experience relating to the essential criteria;
    oOne photo (headshot), a brief bio and a statement about why you believe you are a suitable applicant. By submitting this information with your application you have given your permission for the use of this material, if appointed to the Committee, for promotion of the ACIPC and the HCI journal.
