You are invited to a special webinar presented by the Faculty of Health and
the Alumni Engagement Office, on Monday 31 August from 7-8.30pm.Deakin University academics and alumni are working on the front line to
respond to the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as conducting research leading to
evidence-based solutions to help us navigate life during this global crisis.In this interactive webinar you will hear about this ground-breaking work
from a panel featuring Professor Catherine Bennett, Professor Tony
LaMontagne and Dr Glenn Laverack.
The discussion will be hosted by Professor Rachel Huxley, Executive Dean of
the Faculty of Health, and will feature an introduction from Vice-Chancellor
Professor Iain Martin.During the webinar, there will be the opportunity for an audience Q+A with
the panel.
Online registration is essential.About the speakers
University’s Faculty of Health in 2019.
She trained in the epidemiology of non-communicable diseases at Oxford and
is an active researcher in the fields of women’s health and quantifying the
health impacts of climate change.Professor Catherine Bennett is Chair in Epidemiology at Deakin University,
and has a distinguished career in public health practice, research, academic
governance and teaching.
She is one of the leading voices in the media around Australia’s response to
COVID-19.Professor Tony LaMontagne leads the Determinants of Health research domain
in Deakin’s Institute for Health Transformation.
His research aims to develop the scientific and public understanding of work
as a social determinant of health, and to translate this research into
policy and practice to improve workplace and worker health.Dr Glenn Laverack is a Deakin alumnus and an international leader in health
promotion and empowerment, with a distinguished career spanning 35 years as
an academic and as an independent adviser with the U.N., government and
development agencies in over 50 countries.
Dr Laverack is a member of the Technical Advisory Group on Behavioural
Insights and Sciences for Health, which was recently created by the World
Health Organization to help fight the COVID-19 pandemic.We hope you are able to join us.
