Dear colleagues,
Im forwarding on this invitation on behalf of Benedetta Allegranzi and Sara Tomczyk at the WHO Infection Prevention and Control Global Unit, Geneva.
You may have seen Benedetta Allegranzi discuss the WHO Core Components of Infection Prevention and Control at ACIPC 2017 last week. WHO has recently developed a hospital self-assessment framework on infection prevention and control to accompany that document. The idea is that this new survey tool should give the user an indication of how their hospital is travelling in terms of implementing the core components.
They’re looking for five Australian hospitals to participate in usability and reliability testing of this tool prior to its finalisation and release. This process would involve two people familiar with the IPC program at your hospital independently completing the tool and a very short usability survey. More information from WHO below.
Let me know if youre interested or have questions and I can pass on relevant details and the URL for the WHOs online survey.
Kind regards,
Andrewp.s. list members in other countries, theres likely to be a different mechanism for disseminating this invitation in your country, but please also feel free to get in touch.
[Apologies for cross posting – this was also distributed via OzBug.]

AustraliaCall for your participation in testing of WHO facility IPC assessment framework: WHO is testing their recently developed facility IPC assessment framework with health care facilities globally in the next two months. Your participation in this testing and valuable feedback on its usability is needed! Participation consists of two IPC professionals at the facility completing the framework independently and responding to brief usability questions online. All data will be aggregated anonymously and kept confidential. The completion of the framework will also give you a score indicating your facility’s IPC level and informing IPC action plans. Thank you for the consideration – All involvement will be greatly appreciated!
Testing the WHO Facility IPC Assessment Framework
What is this?: We are asking for your help to test the recently developed Infection Prevention and Control Assessment Framework (IPCAF) for health care facilities.
Why we need your help: By completing the assessment framework at your facility and answering brief usability questions you will be providing valuable feedback to help improve the tool. The purpose of this testing is to evaluate the tool itself, not to make any judgements about IPC progress or implementation level.
Benefits for you: Even by testing the framework now, you will get scores that indicate your facilitys IPC level. Such a baseline assessment can help you develop IPC action plans. You can also use the baseline score to track progress through ongoing evaluations. If desired, your participation will be acknowledged in any reports produced.
Data use and confidentiality: All feedback received will be confidential. It will be aggregated and analyzed anonymously and stored only at WHO. We will ask for you to identify your facility at the end of the questionnaire. This is only to calculate an overall test reliability estimate (no identification of facilities will be made in the analysis). Because the assessment framework is still in the testing phase, we also kindly ask you not to distribute the tool itself at this time.
Instructions:For each facility, at least two selected IPC professionals (i.e. health care professionals on the IPC team/committee or with adequate IPC knowledge to complete the tool) should independently complete the framework and enter their results using an online questionnaire.
The framework has eight sections reflecting the WHO IPC core components.
When completing each question, choose the answer(s) that most accurately describe(s) the situation at your facility. In general, choose only one answer per question (question marked either yes/no or choose one answer). Some questions are designed to allow multiple answers. These questions are marked with the note please tick all that apply.
Points are allocated to the individual answers of each question, depending on the importance of the question/answer. In each section (core component), a maximum score of 100 points can be achieved. After you have answered all questions of a component, the score will be calculated by adding the points of every chosen answer. By adding the total scores of all eight components, the overall IPC level is calculated.
The online questionnaire has two parts: (1) The first part will look identical to the printed version of the assessment framework where you can directly enter the completed results; (2) The second part will ask you to complete seven short usability questions to gather your thoughts on the layout, questions and scoring of the framework.
A large thank you for participation we greatly appreciate it!______________________________________________________________________
