Dear Colleagues,
I would appreciate if someone could shed some light on how IPC teams as
interpreting and applying the final sentence in the Victorian DHHS’s
definition of Close Contact for HCWs to their contact tracing.
*If the case (source) is a healthcare worker and has worn a mask while
infectious, a health service may consider additional factors in determining
who should be considered a close contacts. For example, if two staff
members interact (a case and a contact) and both are wearing a mask, this
contact may not necessarily constitute close contact. Additional factors
that should be considered in this assessment include the presence of
symptoms in the case, the duration of contact and the distance between the
case and contact.*
Victorian DHHS Case and Contact Management Guidelines v23, 10 July.
I would like to better understand how each of the additional factors would
be evaluated to decide if the encounter between the source and the contact
should be defined as close contact or not.
Kind Regards
